Teachers: Bring Stream Monitoring into Your Classroom

The Friends of the Fox River’s Monitoring Network and the McHenry County Conservation District are co-sponsoring a stream monitoring training session for teachers on Friday, April 28 from 9:30am-2:30pm at Prairieview Education Center in Crystal Lake.

The training will provide teachers background information about the Fox River, hands-on monitoring training and a Fox River Monitoring Guide. Participants will learn how to collect physical, biological and chemical data that can be used to assess water quality and provide students with real science and hands-on learning experiences. The training will be inside before lunch and out in the stream in the afternoon. Participants are asked to dress for the weather and lunch will be provided. Substitute reimbursement for teachers in the Fox River Watershed is available for the day of this workshop and future field trips.

To register and request more information, call or email Mary Kozub at Prairieview Education Center at 815-479-5779 or mkozub@mccdistrict.org. Please register for this free workshop by Wednesday, April 19.
