Friends of the Fox River (FOFR) is holding the Fall Fox Rescue River Cleanup on Saturday, September 16, 2006.
FOFR’s Spring 2006 Fox Rescue resulted in 11 individual Fox Rescue cleanups. Nearly 350 volunteers removed 6.6 tons of trash from 14.5 river miles. Join us at our Fall Fox Rescue Cleanup and surpass the amount of trash collected from the river.
Three sites are being organized. Volunteers are invited to join any of these sites or are encouraged to set up a site of their own.
Carpentersville
The Carpentersville Fox Rescue Team will host both a canoe and shoreline/bike path cleanup. The canoe crew should meet at Buffalo Park Forest Preserve in Algonquin at 8:30 a.m. This crew will float the Fox River from Buffalo Park to Fox River Shores in Carpentersville. Canoes will be provided for those reserving a spot, or bring your own watercraft. There will be canoe shuttles to opposite sides of the river. The shoreline crew should meet at 9:00 a.m. at Fox River Shores Forest Preserve located along the east side of the river on Williams Road between Lake Marian Road and Bolz Road. All ages are welcome. Wear water boots and bring gloves if you have them. Lunch following both canoe and shoreline cleanups will be generously hosted by Thom McNamee of Bandito Barney's, East Dundee. For more info and to sign up, call Gary Swick at 815-370-0026. Sponsored by Friends of the Fox River.
Batavia
Join Batavians for a Healthy River and Friends of the Fox River for a Fox River cleanup along Batavia’s Riverwalk, the pond, and upstream/downstream of the North Batavia Dam. Volunteers should meet at the Peg Bond Center on the Riverwalk in Batavia at 9:00 a.m. If you have a canoe, bring one along. Wear old clothes and water boots, waders, or old sneakers that can take the wet and mud. Bring gloves that can survive the day. In-river and stream banks will be the trash removal focus for all water lovers, higher up the bank and trails for land lovers. Children must be accompanied by an adult and waivers signed by all. The Bata via Park District and City of Batavia will help with the removal of trash from the site to dumpsters donated by the Onyx Environmental Group. Special thanks go to the St. Charles Canoe Club, sponsored by the St. Charles Park District, who will be assisting with this cleanup. For more info and to sign up, call Jessi DeMartini at 630-871-7548. Sponsored by Friends of the Fox River and Batavians for a Healthy River.
Aurora
The Aurora Rescue Team will meet on the west side of Baje Industrial Drive in Aurora (Baje Industrial Drive is on the east side of the river, south of Stolp Island; take Clark St. west toward the river to the end of street, turn left onto Baje Industrial Drive, look for rescue event signs). Volunteers should meet at 9:00 a.m. All ages are welcome. Bring gloves and wear sturdy shoes and a long sleeved shirt that you don't mind getting dirty. For more info and to sign up, call Chuck Roberts at 630-553-1912. Sponsored by Friends of the Fox River.
