Friends of the Fox River is pleased to announce the winners of the 2nd Annual “Your Fox River Watershed” photo contest. Friends of the Fox River received 122 entries from thirty-one people.
The contest had two divisions: Professional and Amateur. Amateur had two age categories: Youth 14-18 and Adult. Each division had the categories of Landscapes, Wildlife, People Experiencing Nature, River Violations and River Rescue.
In the Amateur Division - Youth 14- 18 - Landscapes category, First Place went to Lenny Gilmore of Batavia. In a 3-way tie A.J. Andrews of North Aurora, Sarah Wadleigh of Elgin and Danielle Burlis of St. Charles won Second Place. Third Place was awarded to Ashley Felicelli of Geneva.
In the Amateur Division - Youth 14 – 18 - People Experiencing Nature category, First Place was awarded to Amber Blatt of Batavia. Second and Third Place was won by photos from Ashley Felicelli.
In the Amateur Division - Youth 14- 18 - Wildlife category, First Place went to Ashley Felicelli.
In the Amateur – Adult - Landscapes category, First Place was awarded to Andy Remiyac of Fox Lake. Second Place went to Diana Sinn of Elgin. In a tie for Third Place was Todd Morganegg of Yorkville and Diana Sinn.
In the Amateur – Adult – River Violations category Frank Vargas of Crystal Lake won First Place. B.J. Schueneman of Elgin won Second Place and Frank Vargas also won a Third Place award.
In the Amateur – Adult - People Experiencing Nature category First Place was awarded to Harriet Karall of St. Charles. Fred Pigott of Wheaton won both Second and Third place for two of his entries.
In the Amateur – Adult – Wildlife category First Place had a tie between Joyce Mitchell of Mapleton, IL and Diana Sinn. Diana Sinn also won Second and Third place for two of her entries.
The winners in the Professional Division – Wildlife category Tom Lowden of Crystal Lake had two of his submissions tie for First Place. Robert Brosnan Elgin won Second Place and Tom Lowden was Third.
In the Professional Division – People Experiencing Nature category, First Place went to Robert Brosnan. Jim Nies of Batavia won Second Place and Tom Lowden won Third.
In the Professional - Landscapes category, First Place and Second Place was awarded to Jim Nies for two of his submissions. Third Place went to Tom Lowden.
Judges Choice Awards went to A.J Andrews of North Aurora and Jim Nies of Batavia who was awarded Judges Choice Awards for two of his submissions.
Photos were judged on a point system in five areas: Composition, Originality, Conveys Theme, Conveys Category and Overall Impression.
Judges for the photo contest were Jim Ream of Jim Ream Photographics; Mike Rennels, Public Access Manager for Fox Valley Television; and Cindy Bravos, Bravo Media.
A reception will be held for the contest winners November 7th at the Kendall County Natural History Museum. The winning photographs will be organized in a traveling exhibit that will show throughout the Fox River watershed.
