Friends of the Fox River (FOFR) is pleased to announce the winners of the 2006 Photo Contest.
FOFR received 62 entries from 27 individuals with photos which were taken in all areas covering the Fox River watershed. The theme of the contest is “Your Fox River Watershed”.
The winners are as follows:
In the Amateur Adult – Wildlife category the First Place winner was Frank Vargas of Crystal Lake and the Second Place winner was Dave Rigby of McHenry. The Third Place winner was a tie between Fred Pigott of Wheaton and Diana Sinn of Elgin.
Winners in the Amateur Adult – Landscapes category were First Place winner Thomas Nicol of Geneva and Darrell Griffin of Aurora who was the Second Place winner. Third Place was a tie between Peter Weldon of West Dundee and Darrell Griffin.
Erin Hiller of McHenry was the First Place Winner in the Amateur Adult – People Experiencing Nature. The Second Place award was a tie between Bill Meier St. Charles, Steve Reich of Crystal Lake, and Dave Rigby. Julee Bowman of St. Charles was the Third Place winner.
The First Place winner in the Amateur Youth – Wildlife was Val Metz of Batavia. Cassidy Walsh of Batavia was the First Place winner in the Amateur Youth – Landscapes.
In the Professional – Landscapes category the First Place winner was Adam Scott Talley of Batavia. Samentha Klapperich of McHenry won Second Place.
Tom Lowden Crystal Lake won both the First and Second Place awards for the Professional – Wildlife category. Adam Scott Talley was the Third Place winner.
In the Professional – People Experiencing Nature category Tom Lowden again won First and Second Place.
Judges Choice awards were given to Peter Weldon, Frank Vargas and Adam Scott Talley.
Entries were judged on the photograph’s overall impression which included the technical execution of the shot. Composition and content along with the quality of the print also were judged. Another judging criteria was whether the photo expressed the theme of the contest and the category it was entered in. Finally the photo was judged on whether it supported the Friends of the Fox River’s mission which is to preserve, restore and protect the Fox River Watershed's resources by connecting people with nature through education, research, restoration and advocacy.
Judges for the photo contest were Jim Ream of Jim Ream Photographics in Aurora, Mike Rennels of Waubonesee Community College and Cindy Bravos of Bravo! Media in St. Charles.
Friends of the Fox River would like to thank everyone who entered and appreciate their continued support of FOFR’s efforts to raise awareness of the beauty and fragility of the Fox River Watershed.
