“Raising Kane” Group Read & Discussion
February 11 @ 12:30 pm
Join us in reading the autobiography of The FOX (an American schoolteacher and environmental activist who became known in the Chicago area during the 1960s for his environmental direct action under the pseudonym The FOX). The FOX executed “stunts” that successfully brought media attention to the severe pollution of the Fox River in the 1960s that was killing wildlife and threatening human health. His tactics were unique, dangerous, and memorable, and paved the way to the era of Fox River water quality improvement that we continue to enjoy to this day.
Then participate in the discussion on Sunday, February 11th at 12:30 p.m. led by Friends of the Fox River Education Director Jenni Kempfat Schweitzer Environmental Center 16N900 Sleepy Hollow Road, West Dundee, IL 60118 or on zoom. Each reader will have opportunities to hear others’ perspectives and share their own as we contemplate what Fox River protection looks like then, now, and in the future. Refreshments will be served for those that attend in person. Weekly discussion prompts will be delivered to the email address you provided. Write or think about responses to these as they will be part of the discussion at the end of the group read.
Order a limited-edition copy of the book at the special group-read rate of $25.00. Pay online at https://friendsofthefoxriver.wildapricot.org/event-5564651
