Stand up for the Fox
When policies that affect the health of the Fox River watershed are discussed or debated, Friends of the Fox River participates as an advocate for the river. We review and comment on municipal and commercial discharges, dam removal, road expansions, and implementation of best management practices in the Fox and its tributaries. We testify at public hearings regarding water quality issues in the watershed, and communicate directly with newspapers, legislators, and government agencies whenever the watershed is involved.
With less federal protections in recent years, including changes to the Clean Water act in 2023, local and regional actions can make a difference. In February 2026, Illinois became the first state in the nation to officially recognize rewilding – the reintroduction of keystone species that improve ecosystems. Read full Chicago Tribune article.
