Be a Friend

Why does the Fox River need YOU as a friend?

Flex your Friend muscles restoring degraded river habitat

The Fox River and its tributaries are under constant pressure from land use changes in the watershed that increase runoff pollution.  The river’s flow is hindered by obsolete and dangerous dams and is degraded because of inadequate stormwater management and other environmental factors relative to high human population density.

FOTFR was founded to gather Friends to act in defense of watershed threats. We are building a watershed of caretakers.

Your support as a Friend is necessary for the protection of the entire Fox River Watershed. We achieve our mission through the participation of concerned Friends like you. We cannot rely on the local, state, or federal government to fully protect and restore the river. It takes a unified effort. As a Friend, you will receive FOTFR benefits like the Watershed Weekly newsletter and be invited to participate in other Friend events.

Consider the many ways that you can “Be a Friend”

  • Cleanups: Lend a hand at a shoreline or on-the-water cleanup. Or, organize your own.
  • Events: Participate at an event or help organize it. It’s our Fox River Day, held every September, is a great opportunity for individual organizers.
  • Committees: Most of the work we do happens in committees.  We always welcome new skills. Let us know your interests.
  • Restore Schweitzer House and Woods: The 1950s historic home, Bee Sanctuary pollinator garden, and sprawling acres of oak/hickory forest need regular care.
  • Business Partnership: Let’s support each others’ missions by sharing resources.
  • Donate: Give a recurring or one-time donation to support protecting the Fox River.

Contact us to discuss your interests, skills, and experience, so we can become better friends at info@FOTFR.org or 815.356.6605.
