Second Saturday Outdoor Adventure

January 11 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

family on a woodland trail

Friends of the Fox River is excited to announce our new Second Saturday Event Series will be kicking off on January 11, 2020. You and your family are invited to join us on the 2nd Saturday of each month as we explore special places along the Fox River and throughout its watershed. Learn what a watershed is. See how the Fox River was formed, Visit the special natural areas that make the Fox River Valley an important ecosystem, flyway and fishery.

We’re offering this new outdoor activity program as a companion to our well established and popular 2nd Sunday’s at SEC series of free public presentations. Like the indoor 2nd Sundays program, our 2nd Saturday’s outdoor activities will be open to all and FREE!

Our first journey of discovery will take place at our Schweitzer Environmental Center (SEC) in Schweitzer Woods Forest Preserve in West Dundee, IL. Learn what a watershed is. We’ll explore the trails around the site and see first-hand how our own watershed was formed and how our daily activities affect it.

The adventure begins at 11 a.m. with hot chocolate and a short hike. Dress for the weather!  We’ll return to SEC for an interactive experience playing with one of our new EnviroScape models. See how the watershed works when it isn’t frozen! Then make it rain and see what happens. Bring the whole family and let’s go exploring together.  Click here to RSVP.
