Friends of the Fox River leases the Schweitzer Environmental Center from the Kane County Forest Preserve District for environmental restoration, meetings, events, education from the Forest Preserve in partnership with School District 300. (We host a restoration workday every first Thursday of the month – this Tuesday was rescheduled to accommodate spring break and vacation schedules –  and an environmental event every second Sunday.)

Restoration at Schweitzer begins at 9:00 a.m. headed up by co-stewards Katie Meyer and June Keibler. Dress for the weather, wear sunscreen, a hat, work gloves, waterproof footwear. We will be cutting down invasive species, burning the logs, stems, branches, and applying herbicide to the remaining stems.
